Hello Sunshine! I have just fell in love with the TV show, Lip Sync Battle. I can’t watch an episode without tons of laughs & sore abs the next day! I fell in love with John Legend even more & did not think it was possible in that episode. What I really love is the variety of music. I am a lover of all types of music, Grunge, Metal, Country, French, Christian, Classic Rock, Classical & so many other cultures that I will not turn away from; so I am singing & dancing along with the show. Check out Lip Sync Battle if you can.

Monday, May 4th HBO will air a documentary about Kurt Cobain, Kurt Cobain: A Montage of Heck. I remembered when we vacationed in Seattle this past December we visit the EMP Museum & of course, there was a great exhibit for grunge music & especially Nirvana with personal belongings of Kurt Cobain.

National Sibling Day

National Sibling Day http://princessmouseycards.com

National Sibling Day http://princessmouseycards.com

Hello Sunshine & Happy Friday! A beautiful weekend is ahead of us all. We have April showers for us in Austin, TX. I couldn’t be happier because as we all know, April showers bring May Flowers.

Did you know that today is National Sibling Day? I am so very happy to honor my Big Brother, Anthony. I have always looked up to my brother & not just because he is taller than me. He is such a great man. He has always been so patient and wise. He has always given me such great advice and maybe since he is a big brother, he has been the best protector. When I saw the movie, Boyhood I was just so taken by the story. How they fought in the backseat of the car when they were kids and teased each other, but no matter what, they were so close. That is us!

Boyhood

Boyhood

Of course, that movie spoke to me on other levels as a parent and a wife of divorce, but that’s a different story.

My brother is a wonderful single father and will be visiting us in a few weeks and I can’t wait! Now, my nephews are growing up to be the sweetest siblings that are very loving, kind, respectable & I know that they will be able to build relationships as adults that are loving to others. I know that Family is where it begins. Family is the foundation.

Celebrate National Sibling Day. Call your siblings & let them know how much they mean to you.

Just my 2 kisses.

Lots of Love,

Lisa

Spring Reading

Austin, TX No Place Like Home http://princessmouseycards.com

Austin, TX No Place Like Home
http://princessmouseycards.com

Ok, I have been away for so long! Unfortunately I have had a few ‘episodes’ with my brain injury and I have been unable to post. Just my usual migraines and seizures, but it does keep me from writing. I have also been getting our home ready for a guest, well, guests. We just had my friend Jessica here last week and Next month my brother and my nephews will be here. Jessica was here to speak at Austin’s World Famous SXSW. I felt bad, but I kept telling her it was a big deal that she was speaking at the event because I was making her nervous. I am born/raised Austin, so I know SXSW before it is today. When it was just music and no badges were needed. Oh those were the days. Anyway, she and our other friends did fantastic! They were speaking about ‘How Latina Moms Are Raising Next Gen Coders.’ Yes, SXSW has changed. There is so much going on around the actual Convention Center and so many booths advertising their products & giving their products free to do just that. There are even people walking around as advertising. I was the driver for my friend. She doesn’t live here & I wanted her to have a great time, so it was so fun to see how Austin is still very beautiful and the parks are full outside of SXSW! Of course, get inside the madness and it is full of cars and people.

Well, I have been a busy bee reading for my spring book list. One of my favorite Instagram, @princessmousey friends recommended a book, I Forgot To Remember. I was immediately attracted because it is about a young lady who has had a brain injury and struggled with amnesia. She overcomes amazingly. Reading this book was very good for me, because it helped me to understand that I am not the only one that goes through this.

I like reading Sophia Kinsella books. Sometimes I just need to read a good girl book and the Shopaholic series are my tried and true ‘go to’s’. Having said that, Shopaholic To The Stars is not my favorite of the series. The book took a very long time to get me into it. I can easily read a 400 page book in about 2 days, but this book took me about 2 weeks because I could not find myself getting into it. However, the ending has me wanting to read the next. Go figure!

WOW! The Girl On The Train was amazing. When I was young I loved watching Alfred Hitchcock movies. This book reminded me of watching his movies, like Rear Window. Needless to say, I could not put this book down! If you start this book, look for a thriller.

After reading The Girl On The Train, I asked my Instagram, @princessmousey followers for a recommendation and given The Nightingale. This is a beautiful story of 2 sisters separate lives in German occupied 1939 France. You read the book, you really see how the sisters are different, but as you keep reading are they really that different? It is really a beautifully written book.

I love reading novels to take me to another place & time. I just love to read! You can find me on Goodreads. I really recommend these books. I believe these books were all 300-400 pages, but they are all written so beautifully, the subject is wonderful to take on spring break & are all so exciting that you will be unable to put them down, but that’s just my 2 kisses. You will find every moment of silence or just a moment of alone time to read!

I also want to let you know about e-mails I started receiving from Book Bub. Everyday I get their email of about 1-3 books that are FREE, .99 or $1.99 per book! I have bought a Vegan Cookbook, a Paleo Cookbook and a few novels. Of course, I have just deleted the email most times, but it is good to get a bargain book to download to your tablet.

My favorite is checking the free books on my iTunes books. I always find books there! Always the classics, but they also put newer books. If you have an iPad, check on the very bottom of the iBooks page for Free Books Tab & Weekly Bestsellers Under $4. There are even kid books in there.

Brain Injury Awareness Month
http://princessmouseycards.com

Last thing! March is Brain Injury Awareness Month! I have suffered a brain injury and I live in Texas. In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has designated March 18 as Brain Injury Awareness Day. The Governor’s office estimates 2 million Texans are living with Traumatic Brain Injury & 144,000 sustained TBI’s in 2014. The Brain Injury Assoc. of America Texas Division assists victims & their families in finding rehab, legal, financial & other support services. 1-800-444-6443. biausa.org

Romantic Movies For Valentine’s Day

Romantic Valentine Movies http://princessmouseycards.com

Romantic Valentine Movies http://princessmouseycards.com

Hello Sunshine! Love is in the air! Do you have your plans ironed out? We are a bit of an old couple so we stay in for Valentine’s Day. I love to give kisses to The Hubby & I guess I feel in the comforts of home, I am not embarrassed of too much love!

Since we will be home, we will be watching a romantic movie! I decided to make a list of movies that we could watch. We are ‘Movie Watching Fools’ & it only makes sense to re-visit a favorite.

Paris, Je T’ aime

Paris comes to life in this whimsical patchwork of 18 five-minute shorts united by a common theme: love in the City of Lights. Natalie Portman captures the heart of a blind student, Juliette Binoche is visited by a ghostly Willem Dafoe, and more.

Once

In this charming contemporary musical, a street musician in Dublin strikes up a friendship with a migrant street hawker, and the duo ends up composing and recording a series of songs over the course of a week that mirrors their burgeoning romance.

Silver Linings Playbook

After a stint in a psychiatric hospital, bipolar Pat has no choice but to move back in with his football-obsessed parents. While he tries in vain to reconcile with his wife, Pat meets a woman who’s as unstable as he is — and she changes his life.(Netflix Stream)

Shakespeare in Love

A young Shakespeare, out of ideas and short of cash, meets his ideal woman and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays. (Netflix & Amazon Prime Stream)

Of course, you can never go wrong with Moulin Rouge, Sleepless in Seattle, The Notebook, Love Actually & Notting Hill! So, maybe put your favorite beverage on ice, make that heart shaped pizza and have a nice romantic night in for Valentine’s Evening!

Sending Love to you!

Lots of love,

Lisa

Keeping It Cool With Rove

On The Go With Rove http://princessmouseycards.com

On The Go With Rove http://princessmouseycards.com

Hello Sunshine! What a beautiful week we have had here. I know there is still lots of snow out there, so don’t worry~ I enjoyed the sun & 70 degree temps for you!

Some of you that know me, know that I am a compulsive snacker! If you do not know me, you may follow my Instagram @PrincessMousey posts and notice that I have lots of food pics. I love to eat! I am a vegetarian & I do like to eat Low Carb snacks throughout the day. This can be difficult when I am out & about. I end up packing a lunch box or stuffing my purse with plastic zipper bags with fruit and veggie snacks. When I go out for a long day of grocery shopping or hitting the craft shops, my zipper bags get smooshed, my lunch box foods smell rancid. I can’t even think of pulling over to a Drive-Thru because there is nothing vegetarian or low-carb on the menu.

Well, I found this great product from Rove! It’s A 7 piece Laptop Iced Bento Lunch BoxI know! The Bento Box even comes with a spoon and fork. The box is the perfect size to carry with me in the car, on a plane & if I need to take it into a movie (movie theaters don’t have healthy snacks ), it fits perfectly in my medium size purse. I can now carry my fresh berries, my sunflower butter with celery, almonds & much more! Bento Box containers are top-rack dishwasher safe, microwaveable & eco-friendly.

Berry Infused Water With Rove http://princessmouseycards.com

http://princessmouseycards.com

Rove also has this great 20 oz Wall Insulated Infuser Tumbler that I have been addicted to since I received it! I absolutely enjoy drinking water all day & everyday. I do enjoy infusing my water with berries, fruit and herbs at times. Now that I have this tumbler, I can carry it ‘On The Go’ with me. They make it so easy for you to enjoy your flavored water without the chemicals. The tumbler comes with a straw, but you can opt out of using it if you do not like it. The dual access lid lets you sip through the mouthpiece or with the curved straw, which has a flared end to keep it in the tumbler. The infuser tumbler is double wall insulated to keep your beverage cooler ‘On The Go,’ eliminate puddles, and reduce exterior condensation for a more comfortable grip.

Rove Hot & Cold Mug http://princessmouseycards.com

Rove 14 oz. Double Wall Hot & Cold Hydration Mug
http://princessmouseycards.com

Another addiction of mine is my coffee or my calming tea. It is a Must for me. Rove has a great 14 ounce double wall hot & cold hydration mug to keep your beverage the temp you like. The best part, if you are taking this in traffic, the mug has a one-touch push open lid that offers 360 degrees of sipping area all around the rim, so no fumbling around for the opening. Drinks stay hot or cold longer in this stylish travel mug, thanks to double wall insulation, which reduces exterior condensation and eliminates puddles.

I love letting you know about my favorite tried & true favorite things & Rove is definitely one of them for this Vegetarian, Low Carb Eater, Water, Coffee & Tea Drinker! You can find more of their products by clicking here at the: Rove Website. They have an Instagram account you can follow: RoveLiving to learn more about them.

Thanks so much for visiting. If you liked this post or any of my pics, please share on your social media pages with the buttons below.

My 2 Kisses About House Cleaning

I Love House Cleaning

I Love House Cleaning

Hello Sunshine! I am so happy to have you as my sunshine because our Austin has had a bit of gloomy days lately. However, we have sunny days ahead for the weekend and 70’s in the temps! I am looking forward to it.

So, with the new year & we’ve gotten our holiday decor packed up, I have started to look at the house and getting it in shape for Spring Cleaning! Maybe it is just me. Well, it’s true I can be a bit of a neat freak when it comes to the living part of the home because that is where our guests come and I don’t want them to see a big mess. I started making a list of how I clean, some of my favorite cleaning products, what to clean and when to clean them. I thought I would share how I get my Spring Cleaning started. I always have my music that I am in the mood for, current, soundtrack, holiday, Christian, Spanish, French or whatever the Spirit has me in! I have a large bucket that I carry to all the rooms with all the cleansers, sponges and towels that I need handy.

Cleaning Bucket princessmouseycards.com

Guest Bath

Sometimes I will spray Tilex brand cleanser the night before in the showers to soak so I can scrub the next day. Bedtime is a great time for a soaking. If no one is in the guest bath, then I don’t bother with it. It’s just the 2 of us in the house.

I always make sure room sprays are full, soaps are full, extra paper is full, refresh the towels. I sweep and mop weekly. I use my favorite disinfecting wipes on the toilet & handle daily. I also wipe the counters daily. The wipes make it so easy!

Disinfecting Wipes princessmouseycards.com

Disinfecting Wipes princessmouseycards.com

Family Room

I don’t mind dusting. Always dust prior to vacuuming. I do not like vacuuming, but I do it. Remember to vacuum in both directions to make sure you get all of the grime. Sounds gross, but that is what is in the carpet. We also have tile and wood floors. I absolutely love our floor steamer and love to steam the tiles! I love the immediate gratification from watching any spills go away with the steam cleaner. I also love using the wooden cleaner. I have a vacuum, a steamer and another mop for the wood floors!

The Kitchen & Breakfast Room

This is where it gets messy! I keep those disinfecting wipes that I love in a drawer always in the kitchen because they are a Must! I remove everything from the counters when I do the real clean. One by one I wipe each and every counter. I wipe the toaster oven. I place the stove top grates in the dishwasher. I also place my coffee machine, Keurig & Nespresso items in the dishwasher. Those are known to be some of the dirtiest items in the kitchen!

One of my best tips for the kitchen is: I keep a bottle of Tilex under the sink! I have a Love~Hate relationship with Tilex. The fragrance is so strong and it really brings on my migraine. The love about it though~ it really disinfects and gets rid of any mold! I spray our sink grates and that rubber thing that covers the disposal and it keeps the mold away! I spray that at night and let me tell you – No mold!

For the fridge, I really recommend liners. I always wipe the liners with my wipes and I can keep our fridge clean always. I label everything with a sharpie marker with the date I buy it so I know how long I have had it. I do not just go by the expiration date. Again, I wipe everything down with the disinfecting wipes: handles, microwave buttons, light switches. The wipes make it easy to do this at the end of the day. When I do my weekly clean, I use my sponges with my cleaners of course. Don’t forget the microwave and stove!

Formal Dining Room and Living Room

This is usually a quick clean unless we have had company. I usually just need to make sure there are no broken pieces and dust and do a really good vacuum.

Laundry

Start with laundry so that it is all clean and ready to be folded and hung after the house is clean. I will also place our shower curtain liners in the laundry so they can air dry by the time I am in the bathrooms to clean. I wash our rugs out regularly because I keep a few under our trash compactor and our stove. There tends to be misses and spills there and I don’t like to have any smells on the rugs, I like to start rugs before cleaning so they can air dry while I am cleaning.

Master Bathroom

Yes, I keep a pack of wipes in a drawer at my vanity because I get powder and perfume spray on my counter! I wipe my counter every time I put on my make-up. I do not have a problem at getting my mirror dirty, but my husband gets his mirror filthy! I think he gets toothpaste on it. Anyway, I have learned that I start with his, because he does not keep up with his as much, maybe because he doesn’t have pretty bottles. With towels, it is said that they can be used 3 times before washing, but I wash mine everyday. I just believe that if you have the towels and it’s just us, once is enough. My husband does use his more than once though. I clean the toilet daily, clean my sink daily, with the wipes. I do use my tub weekly, and I wash it every time I use it. My husband uses the Tilex for the shower ( because of my migraines) and he uses it often. He really lets it soak because the stones we have in our shower really attract mold. I steam the tile floors weekly.

Mousey’s Tips

When you buy Re-Usable Shopping Bags I really recommend Canvas. You really need to wash these regularly & cotton canvas is durable. It’s also known that these are some of the dirtiest items in our home.

Place your Coffee maker attachments, Keurig & Nespresso attachments in the dishwasher daily because these are another one of the dirtiest items in our home.

Place a package of Disinfecting Wipes in drawers of bathrooms and in the kitchen so that daily maintenance is not a problem.

Don’t try getting rid of your ‘Junk Drawer.’ We all have one & you know ‘it’s in there’ when you need it! Yes, that is my husbands Beano in there!

If you have marble counter tops, you can use car wax on your counters to bring back that shine. You will need to do it every few months, but it is worth it!

Space your house cleaning out in a few days if you need to. Don’t overwhelm yourself. Of course, it’s just the 2 of us, maybe you have help!

Let’s Fight Flu Season!

Flu Shot

Flu Shot

Hello Sunshine! It’s Friday, any plans? It’s also Columbus Day Weekend. Some of you may have Monday off of work to celebrate. Nice to have a day off. Officially Columbus Day is October 12th & my birthday is October 12th. So have a little indulgence for me!

Well, along with these two celebrations come Flu Season. Bummer! (I just recently saw The Big Lebowski). I wanted to share with you that I have received my flu shot. I know some are against getting vaccinations and of course I do not want to go against your wishes. For those that are ok with it, I wanted to let you know that the flu shot is available now and you may want to look into getting yours soon.

Soaps & Counter Sprays available around the home.

Soaps & Counter Sprays available around the home.

Another way we like to keep the Flu and other germs away as much as we can is to keep our hands & house clean. I keep soaps and counter sprays at every sink in our home. I keep them in the bathrooms & in the laundry room. I make sure I keep counter sprays in the laundry room and I use the kitchen counter spray throughout the day with paper towels that can be thrown away. When it comes to cooking, raw meats and veggies can bring any kinds of germs. Make sure you wash your veggies with veggie spray or at least soak them in warm water with baking soda to remove any dirt, insects or pesticides off of them, especially if you do not buy organic.

Wash Your Hands

Wash Your Hands

If you have young kiddos that are coming home from school, pre-school, daycare or just anywhere that they may have been with other kids or grown ups, it’s always good to have them change into after school clothes and wash up. When they are washing their hands in warm water, always have them sing the ‘Happy Birthday Song’ TWICE so that you know they have gotten a good cleaning. I used to love singing the song and putting my name in it! Also, make sure they don’t just wash the soap off immediately! When I was a teenager and I would babysit, I would see that a lot! I always love teaching kids with the foaming soaps because its cool the way it foams and has the fragrance so quickly! Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day always has the best fragrances and it is such a great product.

I know there is so much going around with Ebola and the best we can do is keep clean and avoid letting our own germs spread. Keep these tips in mind to help you from spreading germs:

  • If we sneeze or cough, do so in our sleeve & keep tissues.
  • Wash our hands after using the bathroom, handling money, handling food, contact with animals, someone ill, changing diapers, handling garbage, before eating, touching your eyes, mouth or nose.
  • Use hand sanitizers when sinks are not available
  • Keep children’s toys clean and disinfected.

Oh friends, The one year that I did not get the flu shot~ you guessed it~ I got the flu! I was miserable. My husband travels sometimes and it happened to be a week that he was traveling, I put my big girl panties on, pulled myself together and drove myself to my Primary Care to get the care I needed. Thankfully I was able to sleep all day and all week until he returned. Luckily, I was not out & did not spread the yuck because I would not wish the flu on anyone. Well, stay healthy out there.

Also, some of you may know that I have epilepsy and with those of us that have epilepsy or any other illnesses it is important to really take care of ourselves. I really enjoyed my friends post on taking extra care. Check out her post Here. I know you will find it informative.

As always, lots of love to you,

Lisa
