I Love House Cleaning
Hello Sunshine! I am so happy to have you as my sunshine because our Austin has had a bit of gloomy days lately. However, we have sunny days ahead for the weekend and 70’s in the temps! I am looking forward to it.
So, with the new year & we’ve gotten our holiday decor packed up, I have started to look at the house and getting it in shape for Spring Cleaning! Maybe it is just me. Well, it’s true I can be a bit of a neat freak when it comes to the living part of the home because that is where our guests come and I don’t want them to see a big mess. I started making a list of how I clean, some of my favorite cleaning products, what to clean and when to clean them. I thought I would share how I get my Spring Cleaning started. I always have my music that I am in the mood for, current, soundtrack, holiday, Christian, Spanish, French or whatever the Spirit has me in! I have a large bucket that I carry to all the rooms with all the cleansers, sponges and towels that I need handy.

Sometimes I will spray Tilex brand cleanser the night before in the showers to soak so I can scrub the next day. Bedtime is a great time for a soaking. If no one is in the guest bath, then I don’t bother with it. It’s just the 2 of us in the house.
I always make sure room sprays are full, soaps are full, extra paper is full, refresh the towels. I sweep and mop weekly. I use my favorite disinfecting wipes on the toilet & handle daily. I also wipe the counters daily. The wipes make it so easy!

I don’t mind dusting. Always dust prior to vacuuming. I do not like vacuuming, but I do it. Remember to vacuum in both directions to make sure you get all of the grime. Sounds gross, but that is what is in the carpet. We also have tile and wood floors. I absolutely love our floor steamer and love to steam the tiles! I love the immediate gratification from watching any spills go away with the steam cleaner. I also love using the wooden cleaner. I have a vacuum, a steamer and another mop for the wood floors!
The Kitchen & Breakfast Room
This is where it gets messy! I keep those disinfecting wipes that I love in a drawer always in the kitchen because they are a Must! I remove everything from the counters when I do the real clean. One by one I wipe each and every counter. I wipe the toaster oven. I place the stove top grates in the dishwasher. I also place my coffee machine, Keurig & Nespresso items in the dishwasher. Those are known to be some of the dirtiest items in the kitchen!
One of my best tips for the kitchen is: I keep a bottle of Tilex under the sink! I have a Love~Hate relationship with Tilex. The fragrance is so strong and it really brings on my migraine. The love about it though~ it really disinfects and gets rid of any mold! I spray our sink grates and that rubber thing that covers the disposal and it keeps the mold away! I spray that at night and let me tell you – No mold!
For the fridge, I really recommend liners. I always wipe the liners with my wipes and I can keep our fridge clean always. I label everything with a sharpie marker with the date I buy it so I know how long I have had it. I do not just go by the expiration date. Again, I wipe everything down with the disinfecting wipes: handles, microwave buttons, light switches. The wipes make it easy to do this at the end of the day. When I do my weekly clean, I use my sponges with my cleaners of course. Don’t forget the microwave and stove!
Formal Dining Room and Living Room
This is usually a quick clean unless we have had company. I usually just need to make sure there are no broken pieces and dust and do a really good vacuum.
Start with laundry so that it is all clean and ready to be folded and hung after the house is clean. I will also place our shower curtain liners in the laundry so they can air dry by the time I am in the bathrooms to clean. I wash our rugs out regularly because I keep a few under our trash compactor and our stove. There tends to be misses and spills there and I don’t like to have any smells on the rugs, I like to start rugs before cleaning so they can air dry while I am cleaning.
Yes, I keep a pack of wipes in a drawer at my vanity because I get powder and perfume spray on my counter! I wipe my counter every time I put on my make-up. I do not have a problem at getting my mirror dirty, but my husband gets his mirror filthy! I think he gets toothpaste on it. Anyway, I have learned that I start with his, because he does not keep up with his as much, maybe because he doesn’t have pretty bottles. With towels, it is said that they can be used 3 times before washing, but I wash mine everyday. I just believe that if you have the towels and it’s just us, once is enough. My husband does use his more than once though. I clean the toilet daily, clean my sink daily, with the wipes. I do use my tub weekly, and I wash it every time I use it. My husband uses the Tilex for the shower ( because of my migraines) and he uses it often. He really lets it soak because the stones we have in our shower really attract mold. I steam the tile floors weekly.
When you buy Re-Usable Shopping Bags I really recommend Canvas. You really need to wash these regularly & cotton canvas is durable. It’s also known that these are some of the dirtiest items in our home.
Place your Coffee maker attachments, Keurig & Nespresso attachments in the dishwasher daily because these are another one of the dirtiest items in our home.
Place a package of Disinfecting Wipes in drawers of bathrooms and in the kitchen so that daily maintenance is not a problem.
Don’t try getting rid of your ‘Junk Drawer.’ We all have one & you know ‘it’s in there’ when you need it! Yes, that is my husbands Beano in there!
If you have marble counter tops, you can use car wax on your counters to bring back that shine. You will need to do it every few months, but it is worth it!
Space your house cleaning out in a few days if you need to. Don’t overwhelm yourself. Of course, it’s just the 2 of us, maybe you have help!
Maybe some of my little home cleaning tips will help you or give you some ideas to keep up with your home duties. If you like any of these ideas, please share on your social media pages. Thanks!
Lots of love,
