Tequila Time Fruit Popsicles

Hello Sunshine! I don’t know about you, but our weekends are filled with rest, relaxation, hanging out with our friends and family. Then we get to do the weekly shopping. We are so blessed to have great Farmers Markets here in Austin, TX and being a vegetarian, I am just loving it! My husband is a meat eater, but he is a locavore, so having lots of local farm raised meats available is fantastic.

So, I want to share with you these easy peasy popsicles we adults enjoy at our gatherings after a long week in the warmer days. Please enjoy responsibly, keep out of reach of children & even try them without the alcohol if you like. Simply substitute with sparkling soda or ginger ale.

Tequila Time Fruit Popsicles

  • 2 Cups Pineapple Juice (fresh is best)
  • 1 lb. Fresh Pineapple, Peeled & Pureed
  • 3/4 C. Tequila
  • 1/4 C. Grenadine

Instructions

  1. Combine & stir pineapple juice, pureed pineapple & tequila. Fill popsicle wells 3/4 way up with pineapple mixture. Pour 1 teaspoon of grenadine into each well.
  2. This is where I insert sliced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or Luxardo Maraschino Cherries into each popsicles. Insert the popsicle sticks & cover the popsicles. If your popsicle molds don’t have covers, just cover with foil and cut a slit for the stick. Keep in the freezer & enjoy when frozen!

*This recipe makes 32 ounces of goodness plus the fruit you add. Depending on the size of your popsicle molds, is how many popsicles you will have.

These are so perfect on the deck for the neighborhood Happy Hour. Always remember to have plenty of water for your guests when serving alcohol. You never want anyone to get dehydrated and hungover at your gathering.

Thanks for visiting &

Lots of love,

Lisa

Planning A Paleo Super Bowl Menu

Planning A Paleo Super Bowl http://princessmouseycards.com

Planning A Paleo Super Bowl
http://princessmouseycards.com

Hello Sunshine! Are you keeping up with all the media surrounding the deflated balls? Yikes! I stopped watching The Real Housewives shows a few years ago because I couldn’t take the drama anymore, but now I have football drama! I am always looking at the good in people, so I don’t know what to think. I know, get angry with me.

So, I am on the ‘Low-Carb’ diet for my epilepsy. However, I am 42 years old and I really do care about what I eat in order to maintain a healthy output in my day. I follow the low carb diet ‘lightly’ but not so much as I do not let myself rarely enjoy a carb. After all, I work out daily and I am a vegetarian, so I feel that as long as I don’t indulge in carbs constantly, I am ok. My husband on the other hand has been ‘following’ the Paleo diet for weight loss for about 3 years, but has not had any results. He knows that the diet does not work for everyone, but I notice that he does not follow some of the guidelines. I want to help him & I thought I would kick start it with Super Bowl. He will be so into the game that he won’t even realize the food & snacks that I made for him. He really needs to add more veggies to the diet, so I will be adding veggies to the Super Bowl Spread! I found lots of recipes and Pinned them on my Pinterest Board here labeled: ‘Paleo / Low Carb’ if you would like to take a peek. I’ll let you know what I chose to make & how it went over with him.

Lots of Love,

Lisa

Host a Romantic Couples Valentine Dinner With Fun Loving Games!

Set A Colorful Table With Your Paper Table Cover

Set A Colorful Table With Your Paper Table Cover

Hosting a Valentine’s Dinner Party is such a fun event. A little event of about 3-4 couples is perfect. Have a nice lite dinner and lite romantic dessert. Something that is going to be filling to play games after, but not too heavy that they can go home and have a romantic evening together. The best dinner topics are how each couple met, first dates, wedding songs. Its always nice for the host to have a little list hidden under the dinner plate just in case there is a quiet uncomfortable lull during dinner.

If you do not have the proper Valentine Theme linens, just grab some: banner paper and stencil or hand stamp hearts or fun loving symbols for a playful table cloth.

Make Your Own Table Covering

Make Your Own Table Covering

This makes the dinner playful and not so formal. It also makes for the event to be not so expensive for the    host to purchase linens in a Valentine Theme or needing to have cleaned after the party.

If you will be playing the couple games after dinner at the same table than removing the paper banners will   make for easy clean up for the games to begin!

Have a few games to play. About 3-4 games is more than enough. You do not want to keep the couples from their romantic evening together after all the ‘Love In The Air’!

A very popular game is Valentine Bingo. There are many websites to print up cards and use conversation hearts to cover the cards with.

One of my favorites is Matching the couples: Have a list on the left of names and a list on the right of names and

Cupid Bingo Game

Cupid Bingo Game

have the couples match the couples together by drawing a line. I have attached one of the versions that I have used in the past, however feel free to use couples that are relatable to your guests:  Famous Couple Match Up Valentine Game

My very favorite game is using ‘The Chopstick Game’. You use the chopsticks as a couple to move the Conversation Hearts from one bowl to the other bowl! I am not sure if this is an old game, but I just adore it. It may be because we are a power couple at this, always enjoying Asian food and often eating with Chopsticks! Some couples are really good with chopsticks & some are not, but it is always fun to watch the competition. This is a timed game to see how many hearts the couples move in the time of about 2 minutes.

Of course always have nice romantic prizes, a bottle of wine, a gourmet box of Valentine Chocolates, a romantic movie DVD, a gift card for a movie theater. Just any romantic prize you can think of. Remember you always want to have extra prizes for any tie’s in games.

Valentine's Day Chopstick Game

Valentine’s Day Chopstick Game

Of course send your couples home with a Romantic Party Favor. I tend to go over board on these because your guests have really spent a wonderful evening with you and have been wonderful sports in playing the games. I love filling a bucket with a bottle of my favorite: Sparkling Riesling, One of our favorite: Romantic Movie DVD‘s, A petite box of my very favorite: Honey Dust for sweetness and a very endearing note on: Fine Stationary of love & Wishes for a Happy Valentine’s Day!

I wish all of you a very Happy Valentine’s Day. May it be filled with lots of love!

It’s Thanksgiving, Let’s Eat, Drink And Be Merry!

Have Your Buffet Inviting For Your Guests

Have Your Buffet Inviting For Your Guests

Modern Thanksgiving

Modern Thanksgiving

So, have you signed up for Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot? With all of the calories about to be consumed it may be a good idea to start the day with a nice 5 mile or 1 mile walk / run. I know when I was growing up here in Austin, I always signed up. I wonder why I stopped? I need to look into that tradition & get back into it.

Well, I wanted to let you in on the menu. If you follow my little posts, you may know that I suffered a concussion a while back and I now have daily migraines and epilepsy. It can be challenging most days and yes, it has been a ‘New Life’ to learn as my doctors and almost everyone has told me~ to live. Anyway, I don’t want to go there, just want to let you know that I myself can’t do it all and you may not want to do it all, but I do want to do some, so I like the idea of having a ‘Modern Thanksgiving.’ I buy the Perfect Turkey & a few sides from Whole Foods and my Gourmet Pies from St. Philip. Also, I am a vegetarian & I eat low carb diet and I like to introduce my guests to a little of the diet. Not because I want them to convert, but because I just don’t want my guests to overload on the carbs.

Goat Cheese Stuffed Sweet Peppers

Goat Cheese Stuffed Sweet Peppers

If you have not had Cauliflower ‘Mashed Potatoes’ yet, well you are just missing out! I absolutely love them. Talk about a fooling and when you doll them up with some garlic and thyme, you will not realize they are not potatoes. It’s all about the flavor that you don’t miss the broth or the starch stuff. Don’t worry, I have the printable for you: Low Carb Cauliflower ‘Mashers’

I also like a little stuffing with quinoa. I just love anything made with quinoa! Since I am a vegetarian, I look for anyway to get protein and quinoa is a great way to get me some! Some say quinoa is a Super food. So, you can try a bit of this in your Thanksgiving menu, here is the recipe I used from Self : Quinoa Stuffing

If you follow my Instagram, @princessmousey, you may have seen one of our favorite party starters we like to make~ Stuffed Sweet Peppers. Here is the printable for those yummies: Goat Cheese Stuffed Sweet Peppers

Ok, I am a Texan ~ Born & Raised. I love anything smoked. I would probably smoke my lipstick if my husband would think the kisses would be tasty. Ha Ha Ha! Another one of our favorite party starters is Smoked & Grilled Brie! We have this Camerons Stovetop Smoker and I use it for almost everything. So, I buy just any simple brie because I am going to flavor it myself. I smoke it in the smoker for about 30 minutes in the Camerons Smoker. Then I grill it on a Stovetop Grill Pan only for about 2 minutes, each side, just to get grill marks and melt the cheese inside the rind. Serve this with crackers and yum! I found these Fig and Olive Crisps from Trader Joe’s & they are fantastic with the Brie.

After Dinner Sitting Area

After Dinner Sitting Area

Ok, so if you are having dinner at home or if everyone is coming to a hosts home after a restaurant dinner, you may want to reserve a spot for adult beverages. Just a little sitting area if there is not anyone going to the reserved spot you made outside. Just with after dinner Brandy, Port, Scotch a few beers or even an assortment of wine & non-alcoholic beer & non alcoholic sparklers, as well. Oh, I love a Signature Drink! Something named after the hosts or The Holiday. We always have A Diaz Spritzer, A Diaz Sangria ( like we had at our wedding) or A Diaz Something! One thing for sure, have a few bottles of bubbles! Have you ever noticed that someone may make a special announcement when the family is together? An engagement, someone is expecting, someone has purchased a home or a promotion. You may want to have some champagne to celebrate! Hey, if there are not any announcements, you have champagne to relax with after all the guests leave. Of course, Don’t forget the water! I like to put little nuts and banana chips with coconut chips as snacks. It seems like this is such an eating holiday, but little snacks are good to have just in case.

Drink Assortment

Drink Assortment

One of my family traditions growing up is to decorate the Christmas tree. It’s a perfect time because we are all together and we all do it together, especially if you have family heirloom ornaments. Memories! I have beautiful memories of us decorating the tree with my grandparents! Prior to everyone coming I usually have the tree up, but we use an artificial. And the decorations are in a box ready for us to place on the tree. If you favor a natural tree, I think there are Christmas Tree Stands up at Thanksgiving time.

Another tradition, of course is watching football! What is not to love of cheering on your favorite team. Since my husband & I dated we would always favor opposing teams just to make things interesting. Of course, having a friendly wager is always nice!

If the kids need something to do, I have a little ‘Pin The Face On The Turkey’ In the Activity Book provided, so you may want to have an eye mask or something to cover the little ones eyes. Also, have little scissors and crayons or colored pencils. I made these little activity books for you to print up: We Give Thanks Activity Book

I also have a little banner that you can print up. This is your preference. If your kiddos are better with scissors, they can cut around the leaves, if not so much, just hang up the full pages. I prefer to use clothes pins to hang this banner because it makes it so easy to hang. Simply measure enough ribbon or string to cover the area you will place the banner. Tape the Clothespins onto the back of the cut out paper leaves or pages and then simply ‘clothespin’ where you will like each ‘letter.’ Here is the printable for that banner: Give Thanks Banner

So, the best tips I can gather up for you to host an event is:

Decorate The Tree

Decorate The Tree

  • Have some outdoor activities, if your weather permits with sunscreen, bug spray & seating
  • For your menu, make sure you ask your guests (if you are hosting) Vegans, Vegetarians, Gluten-Free, Diabetics, etc.
  • Ask if you are hosting children to have a kids menu, this is not the time to battle ‘picky kid eaters’ and have kid activities for them so they are not bored when the adults are having adult talk or adult fun.
  • Have Champagne on hand just in case anyone makes any special announcements. This is the time family is together and the perfect time to let others know of happy news!
  • Have Tide Sticks or your favorite stain removers because your guests may be wearing their very best and could have a food spill from all the ‘good eats’. You don’t want them to ruin any of their new or favorite wardrobe items at your event.
  • Have lots of water available in lots of places & make it inviting to those who may not even like water so that none of your guests get dehydrated. Especially with all the talking & alcohol that may be consumed. No hangovers from your event!
  • Keep to your regular fitness schedule prior to your event. Keep to your regular sleep schedule. Take care of your body & skin, so you do not look tired.

Oh, I am sure I can think of a million & one more things, but this is good for now & you can always look back at the previous posts. The most important thing to remember~ this is the time for family & friends to be together & Give Thanks. Thanks for all we have been given. Thanks for being there for each other. Thanks for every gift we have received. The message I most believe is, Love Is Why We Are Here. We give that love to our family, our friends & we share that love with new friends also.

Lots of love to you,

Lisa

Don’t Forget When You Are Hosting Any Event…

Don't Forget You Time

Don’t Forget You Time

Hello Sunshine! Hoping all is well. Are you planning on shopping the Black Friday Sales? They are already advertising, but I sure hope it is safe out there. So I wanted to let you in on something. First, I am no Super Model~By Far! I am also no Beauty Expert~By Far! I just want to make sure during all of this planning that you are doing, you take care of yourself! You must keep up with your daily beauty routine and fitness routine, if you have a fitness routine. Hey, if you don’t have a fitness routine, you may want to pick up a little something now, if it is ok with your physician, of course. Just a little something, like even walking in your neighborhood. Yes, the Holidays can be very busy, but you have to take care of yourself and your family.  Just remember, if you do not take care of yourself, you may become ill and you won’t be able to take care of much else. You also want to be looking fabulous when your friends and family come by to visit! You want that fantastic glow! Of course, you will have that because you will be visiting the ones you love, but you don’t want to be run down. Think of all the photos you will be taking. You want to have the best skin and when the kids come and visit, you want to make sure you have been active!

Neighborhood Runs, Jogs or Walks,

Neighborhood Runs, Jogs or Walks,

Also, when the family is here, maybe after the big meal, see if they want to go for a walk in the neighborhood. Some of the best talks happen when there are no phones, TV’s or any electrical devices. Just walking and talking! You would be surprised at how fast you walk and how long the walk is also! I know that our neighborhood is 4 miles & ugh, with lots of hills. Sometimes when I am on the phone with my family or a friend, before you know it, I have walked the neighborhood twice & haven’t even realized it. It’s a great way to be active with the family. It’s also a great way to get to know the community.

I put up a video of a few of my favorites. Now, remember that I am no Super Model (or regular model!), Beauty Blogger and definitely not a Video Maker!  I think this is my 3rd or 4th Video…. So, it takes me a while to even realize the video is recording. I am too old to make videos, I guess! If you have any questions, ask away. Also, remember~ what works for me may not work for all. I have ‘mature skin.’ I am 41 years old after all.

The point is, Take Care Of Yourself During This Time! Do not get worked up about little details. Spending time with your loved ones is what matters & you want to enjoy it. Don’t be tired, be anxious and excited to see them. Remember, Love is why we are here!

We Were Grateful

We Were Grateful

We Were Grateful

Hello Sunshine! Hope you had a fun weekend! We were busy stocking up or groceries, as usual. Seems like we always make a run to about 3 different grocery stores. I made my 2nd trip to Trader Joe’s and I found so many goodies. I guess living in Austin I am more of a Whole Foods & Central Market shopper. My husband has been doing lots of the shopping lately because of my broken ankle and my limited walking & he has grown to enjoy Trader Joe’s so he has now introduced me.

If you follow my Instagram, @princessmousey, you probably notice that I have been posting a few little snack ideas for your Thanksgiving plans. I like to give little ideas there also.

Well, over the weekend I always enjoy catching up with my family and friends. With a quick phone call or just a quick text message. These days lots of us even have Facebook, Instagram & Twitter. Social media has really been a nice way to share all of our happy moments. I also love when my brother just sends me a text message with photos of my nephews. He will send me Holiday, Birthday and just any happy moments. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love when others are happy! When they are happy, I am happy. I then decided to look through those photos of the pics they shared of their happy moments, the moments they were grateful. You  can easily print screen shot from your computer and there you have it!

Living Favors of Gratitude

Living Favors of Gratitude

I found these perfect small frames at Michaels Craft Store that fit perfectly on a place setting. I found them in different colors and they were $2 each! Personally, I think these are great take aways for your Loved Ones because they are their happy moments captured for them. You can look for pics that they posted from the year of their vacation, of a wedding, birth of a child, a happy couple moment, new home, or I printed a pic of my nephews when they adopted their rescue kitty~ King Cesar! I absolutely love the huge smiles on their face. They had been wanting a kitty for so long and my brother finally felt they were responsible to adopt. They were grateful! Another reason why I like these frames is it’s a conversation for the table in that we can ask each other what their happy moment was. Then we it may start of about the time of when each others vacation of the year or the first adopted kitty from another member at the table and so on. I am sure my guests will want to know how my nephew came up with the name King Cesar!

Second option I have is persimmons as a table favor. I know those mini pumpkins are the usual favor, but you really can’t eat those and again, I am a vegetarian so I love to share a natural fruit snack with all. Plus, I have come to notice that many have not eaten persimmons. They are so delicious and I love to introduce them to as many of my loved ones as I can. I have found that Costco has them at their stores. They have a package of 12 for a great price, so placing 1 on each setting is perfect.

Persimmons are a great favor

Persimmons are a great favor

Ok, another option for a table favor I found these adorable mini rose bushes from Trader Joe’s! These are the priciest of the favors at $3.99, but I found that they came in different colors and they were a great size for each setting.

I guess what I am saying is I like to give living favors. Something that will bring us gratitude ahead, remind us of our gratitude from the past and show our guests how much we remember and appreciated their happy moments from the year.

Maybe you can use these favor ideas for your Thanksgiving event. Always remember~ it’s all about love & enjoying your loved ones. Love is what it’s all about.

Love Is Why We Are Here Thanksgiving

Inventory The Serveware & Linens

Inventory The Serveware & Linens

Wow! It really got to Thanksgiving talk quickly didn’t it! Great! The mouths are watering. So, have you decided if you are having a traditional Turkey Dinner or maybe something different? Funny, I was watching The Steve Harvey Show the other day & I don’t usually watch, but it was playing in the background and I heard him mention that this day is only once a year & he wants Turkey and everything with it! It made sense. It’s one day a year. We should go out and do the entire day justice. Our family and friends deserve the best. We deserve the best.

Checklist

Checklist

I made you some Inventory checklists for your serve ware and table settings to make sure you  have all you need for your guests. Items can easily be missed and then you won’t know till it’s too late. Also, you may not know you have broken dishes and then you will be searching for replacements at the last minute. Now that you know your menu, you know what serving utensils you will require for each item, so on the checklist I have left cells for you to place the menu item and the proper utensil. You are going to be so organized!

Serving Checklist         Table Setting Checklist

Keep in mind, if you are having your Feast catered your caterers will usually provide your  utensils. They are extraordinary that way!

I generally start pulling my dishes out and running them in the dishwasher and hand cleaning   if needed. If I am having a formal event, I wash the linens only if I am not getting them dry   cleaned. For the record~ I do not get them dry cleaned. I know you think it is a lot of work to clean. No! Washing them takes no time at all! Napkins are only the length of your lap so it’s not like ironing is a huge task. It took me less than 5 minutes to iron 8 napkins. So iron while you are watching Scandal & you will knock it out! That little bit is so worth it in the end!

Checklist

Checklist

You may notice on the checklist I have 2 gravy boats. If you have a Vegetarian/Vegan Guest, you want to make sure the gravy is ‘meat free’. Often times the gravy is made with Turkey or chicken broth. Since I am a vegetarian, I am very much aware & I just like to pass this information on. Whole foods and Central Market and many other catering Thanksgiving offer Vegetarian options for Thanksgiving meals, so you should not have a problem if you have a vegetarian guest. If you have a guest and you are cooking for them, you may ask if they prefer something or they may even offer to bring their own, but I definitely placed many vegetarian sides on the menu list for my Veggie Friends.

**One very important detail that I want you to remember** Please have plenty of water available for your guests. Have water bottles,  water pitchers and water decanters~ Plain Water, Spa Water, Tap Water or Ice Water. I just can’t say it enough! When you have talking, eating and definitely alcohol, you need to hydrate your guests. Make sure your guests are having water and make sure the water is placed around your home and looks delicious & inviting.  You know your guests are going to enjoy themselves with the alcohol, you don’t want anyone to have a terrible hangover from dehydration! Also, your guests will thank you if they fill up on such refreshing water and not all the food. I am telling you, You are doing Thanksgiving The Right Way!

Remember, if you have questions so far, ask me in the comments. Don’t worry about this if this is your first Thanksgiving as a host. Thanksgiving is about being with our Loved ones. Love is what it is all about! Love is why we are here!
