So, 2 weeks away & It’s your first time to host Thanksgiving in your home! Sounds pretty exciting, right? Well, it can be. Just don’t get too carried away. Remember what Thanksgiving is all about, Being Grateful! For the love we have for each other and to be surrounded by warm hugs from our loved ones every time the door opens. We have 2 weeks to work on this, if we make a little blunder, it’s ok! We are human! Let’s just enjoy this and make memories!
The first thing we want to think about is ‘who will be coming by to enjoy this Thanksgiving’? We need to have a proper guests list for food buying and/or ordering. We need to make sure we have enough seating arrangements, serve ware, and sleeping arrangements if any guests will be staying over. You never know who may be needing to stay overnight in order to hit those early morning “Black Friday” Deals!
With your guests, you definitely want to make sure you accommodate their dietary needs, so be aware of any restrictions. It is generally the guests responsibility to mention it, but when you call to invite or follow up after an invite has been mailed, you can always ask if there are any restrictions.
Ok, so keep in mind that I am not a ‘Master Chef’ in the kitchen. I am more of the sous chef. Well, maybe not even the sous chef. I can make simple items, but when it comes to making a huge Holiday Turkey & the entire arrangement, eh ~ not for me. If you are into it and you are great at it, I think that is fantastic and you probably don’t need any help at all! In our home, we are a team of 2! So, The Hubby is usually working on getting the outdoors tidy and I am making the inside of the home ‘Perfect’! In doing that I really can’t focus on all of it, the cleaning, the decorating & the cooking. So, I do what every High Power official does, I delegate! That’s right, for the past 20 years I have been buying our Thanksgiving Package from Central Market or Whole Foods. Why not? They know what they are doing! My family that comes over has always been pleased. Before I married my husband, my grandparents would have Thanksgiving with us & they would always enjoy our family time. That is the most important memory. Not having them watch me destroy the kitchen and exhaust myself to clean up after. Instead we enjoyed the time we had to put up our Christmas decorations together.
If you are having a Casual or a Formal Thanksgiving, may I suggest you look into letting the professionals get your meal ready for you. Maybe even having the professionals make just the turkey or just the side dishes. I just had a fantastic Coffee and Baked Good at St. Philip this morning & they will be having gourmet pies for Thanksgiving that you will be able to order and pick up!
We will be hosting in our home with Whole Foods making our Turkey and the usual sides. Keep in mind, I am a Vegetarian, I am also a low carb eater & most Thanksgiving Menu items are not low carb. So, NO turkey for me & ‘NO’ to most of ‘the usual’ sides. Guess what? I am making great sides and party starters that our guests will not even know are low carb and vegetarian. They will really appreciate it when they start watching football and not feel that nap kicking in like it normally does every year. Yes, I love Pumpkin Pie & I do let myself have sweets every so often. When I heard St. Philip is having non-traditional, kicked up Thanksgiving Pie’s, yes, that is what we will be having! Costco is also great at having fantastic tasting pies at fantastic prices! Perfect if you are having an occasion at home or if you are a guest. I know either one of these pies will be a party pleaser.
So, print up the Planning The Thanksgiving Menu list from my Google Drive to get started with your planning and we will go from there! Oh! If you have any questions along the way, please leave them in the comments. I will be happy to go over them with you. Keep in mind this is a preparation in steps, so if you ask a question, we may not be there yet…. Be patient, but DO NOT be afraid to ask!
This will be a series of posts so I do hope you come back and view Mousey’s Parties Tab for updates. Also, if you like this post, I would appreciate if you share on your social media pages with the tabs provided below. Thanks so much!
