Planning The Thanksgiving Menu

Starting The Menu

Starting The Menu

So, 2 weeks away & It’s your first time to host Thanksgiving in your home! Sounds pretty exciting, right? Well, it can be. Just don’t get too carried away. Remember what Thanksgiving is all about, Being Grateful! For the love we have for each other and to be surrounded by warm hugs from our loved ones every time the door opens. We have 2 weeks to work on this, if we make a little blunder, it’s ok! We are human! Let’s just enjoy this and make memories!

The first thing we want to think about is ‘who will be coming by to enjoy this Thanksgiving’? We need to have a proper guests list for food buying and/or ordering. We need to make sure we have enough seating arrangements, serve ware, and sleeping arrangements if any guests will be staying over. You never know who may be needing to stay overnight in order to hit those early morning “Black Friday” Deals!

With your guests, you definitely want to make sure you accommodate their dietary needs, so be aware of any restrictions. It is generally the guests responsibility to mention it, but when you call to invite or follow up after an invite has been mailed, you can always ask if there are any restrictions.

Planning The Thanksgiving Menu

Ok, so keep in mind that I am not a ‘Master Chef’ in the kitchen. I am more of the sous chef. Well, maybe not even the sous chef. I can make simple items, but when it comes to making a huge Holiday Turkey & the entire arrangement, eh ~ not for me. If you are into it and you are great at it, I think that is fantastic and you probably don’t need any help at all! In our home, we are a team of 2! So, The Hubby is usually working on getting the outdoors tidy and I am making the inside of the home ‘Perfect’! In doing that I really can’t focus on all of it, the cleaning, the decorating & the cooking. So, I do what every High Power official does, I delegate! That’s right, for the past 20 years I have been buying our Thanksgiving Package from Central Market or Whole Foods. Why not? They know what they are doing! My family that comes over has always been pleased. Before I married my husband, my grandparents would have Thanksgiving with us & they would always enjoy our family time. That is the most important memory. Not having them watch me destroy the kitchen and exhaust myself to clean up after. Instead we enjoyed the time we had to put up our Christmas decorations together.

If you are having a Casual or a Formal Thanksgiving, may I suggest you look into letting the professionals get your meal ready for you. Maybe even having the professionals make just the turkey or just the side dishes. I just had a fantastic Coffee and Baked Good at St. Philip this morning & they will be having gourmet pies for Thanksgiving that you will be able to order and pick up!

We will be hosting in our home with Whole Foods making our Turkey and the usual sides. Keep in mind, I am a Vegetarian, I am also a low carb eater & most Thanksgiving Menu items are not low carb. So, NO turkey for me & ‘NO’ to most of ‘the usual’ sides. Guess what? I am making great sides and party starters that our guests will not even know are low carb and vegetarian. They will really appreciate it when they start watching football and not feel that nap kicking in like it normally does every year. Yes, I love Pumpkin Pie & I do let myself have sweets every so often. When I heard St. Philip is having non-traditional, kicked up Thanksgiving Pie’s, yes, that is what we will be having! Costco is also great at having fantastic tasting pies at fantastic prices! Perfect if you are having an occasion at home or if you are a guest. I know either one of these pies will be a party pleaser.

So, print up the Planning The Thanksgiving Menu list from my Google Drive to get started with your planning and we will go from there! Oh! If you have any questions along the way, please leave them in the comments. I will be happy to go over them with you. Keep in mind this is a preparation in steps, so if you ask a question, we may not be there yet…. Be patient, but DO NOT be afraid to ask!

This will be a series of posts so I do hope you come back and view Mousey’s Parties Tab for updates. Also, if you like this post, I would appreciate if you share on your social media pages with the tabs provided below. Thanks so much!

An Unexpected Thank You Letter

An Unexpected Thank You

An Unexpected Thank You

Hello Sunshine! I know it’s been a while since I have posted, I have had some severe migraines & I am afraid they have really impaired me from doing too much. My apologies for not keeping up with you.

A while back I posted a Blog about attending Hillary Rodham Clinton’s book signing for Hard Choices at Book People in Austin. I mentioned how kind she is and was to me and I will always appreciate her sincerity. Well, during my migraine spells, I received this letter from Mrs. Clinton and I wanted to share it with you.

I can only express again how much I always recommend visiting a book signing for your favorite author or any public, govornment official that may be visiting your town. I always believe that even if you believe in their politics or not, it is someone that could be a once in a lifetime moment, why not check it out?

Heirloom Tomatoes Are Out!

Heirloom Tomatoes Are Out!

I also wanted to share with you this fantastic snack that we enjoyed while watching The Little League World Series. Heirloom Tomatoes are out now and if you can find them at your local farmers market, grab them! If you can’t find them there, then check out your local supermarket. I grabbed these at Whole Foods. They made it so convenient with the fresh made mozzarella next to them! I had to go home and make some fresh Basil Pesto. I finished the dish with my favorite olive oil from, Mandola’s, sprinkled with fresh Comet Tail Black Pepper and fleur de sel. Oh, we indulged, but it was so worth it!

Labor Day is monday and I do hope you have the day off. Thankfully, we are taking extra time off. So, the hubby and I will be spending a good amount of time together simply relaxing. I hope you enjoy and relax during your holiday, because you deserve it!

Lots of love,

How To Video For Making A Greeting Card

Happy Anniversary Card

Happy Anniversary Card

Here is the link to the You Tube Video : Happy Anniversary Card How To Video Please excuse the mistake of when I say solid paper when I mean to say print paper. I probably have a million other mistakes too! Please excuse all. This is my first How To You Tube Video & 3rd You Tube video in all. Be Gentle Please.

If you do not wish to see the video, here are the written instructions :

This is just a simple Happy Anniversary Card with not too much detail & some of the items I got on sale from Michaels Craft Store. A nice bonus! Michaels has been having a pretty good sale since after Christmas. I had asked one of the employees and she had mentioned that it was to change the seasons and bring out the new Spring Season items. Well, I feel like we can still use lots of these colors for Spring Season and Summer Season.

So I bought of fabric ribbon 4 backs at $1.99, 6 packs at $1.99, and the nicer better fabric 2 packs at $1.99. I also bought lots of sparkles! I love sparkles and at $.79, I love them even more! They also had the large 2 page packs at $1.99 from the high end brand. Some colors you could tell were darker and for Fall, but if that is the color scheme you are looking to work with, perfect. Oh, and multi pack ribbons at $1.99. I just bought a variety of goodies.

Embellishments for The Card

Embellishments for The Card

For the card, you want to start with whatever size card you make, I usually make 5 X 7 cards, so cut your solid color in the size you normally make. and choose the print that you like. I chose this floral because it goes really well with these ribbon flowers that I got on sale. This print paper I bought on sale in the Fall left over from the previous Summer Season. (Bargain Again) I cut the print paper 5 X 7 and glue it to one side of the folded card that is in the solid color paper.

Then I start to place how I want the items on the card. I decide I want the flowers on the left and I

want the card in a landscape setting, you can always change, that is what is fun about being your own designer! I bought these wooden embellishment banners on sale also, set of 12 for $1.99. I have used them for placing stickers on and you can also stamp on them. I realize I want to place bows on them to dress them up. I love Zots, because they really hold and they are easy to place. They are not easy to remove because like I said they really hold. Also, they come in different sizes. You may use a different brand and if you know a better tried and true, let me know. I always love recommendations.

Place Zots to hold bows

I tried yellow and blue ribbon and just yellow ribbon, but I realized the yellow just did not come through. Always look to see how it looks. I always think I know how I want a card, I know the exact colors I want to use and then I make it and it just does not come out right at all. One thing I do is look at it with a camera. Even with your phone camera. Take a picture, look at the picture, see how colors are coming out, what is showing, what is looking a bit too crazy, what is not showing at all, it’s like having another eye, another opinion.

So now I want to stamp my sentiment. You can do it prior to the bows if you are worried that the

bows will get in the way or if your bows are made out of thicker ribbon. I was not quite sure how my ink color or what ink I was going to use, so I waited. I also was still not feeling a greeting! I really make my cards with lots of love and I really have to feel the greeting, it has to come to me. I don’t just go in and say, ‘ I am going to make a Birthday Card’, I really have to feel it. It may sound strange, but that’s how I do it.

Then to place the wooden banners, I really like to give them depth, so I use the 3D adhesives. Just place as many as you need. There are so many different brands out there. Whatever brand you prefer, use that. I like a good sturdy brand that if I make an accident and I try to remove it, it is very difficult and it may leave a scar on the paper. That means I better make a commitment as to where I place them, but at least I know it is sturdy.

Place 3D Adhesives

Place 3D Adhesives

And then you have a finished Happy Anniversary Card or whatever Sentiment you chose to stamp on your card.

One thing I did at the end was change out the center of the Yellow flower. The original center was pearly and the Blue was sparkly. I decided to make them both sparkly. If I looked at this through the camera I may decide to place a ribbon border, a punch border or just more embellishments. As I was finished,I realized it was missing another element. I then placed a scrolled border of teal paper and I felt the banners, bows and flowers really came through. I may add something more or I may take away. You never really know when a card is complete. It may take a while. I may look at it a couple of times with the camera. The fun part of creating anything is you get to choose exactly how everything looks, where everything is placed and when your creation is complete.

I hope you make this card or use some of these steps to make your own card soon. Everyone loves receiving a greeting card in the mail. Especially one that is made with love. If you don’t want to make it, you can always come by Princess Mousey Cards, I have plenty of cards from you to choose from!

Lots of love,

Lisa

Happy Thanksgiving

Sincerely Give Thanks

Sincerely Give Thanks

Wishing You All A Sincere Happy Thanksgiving!

It is Thanksgiving Week & I know there are delicious menu’s planned and travel plans made. Thanksgiving is such a great time to be with family, friends and give thanks.

I am a vegetarian, so I am usually having a non-traditional meal. The ‘non-turkey like’ product is usually a little undesirable. This year, we decided to have a non-traditional Thanksgiving Lunch. We are going to have a normal meal. A meal that we would have any other day. The only request is for me to make ‘Dirt Cups‘. Yes, even with the gummy worms! I do remember making them when Jeremy was in elementary school. I would make them for the class and take them during the lunch. He loved it. It must have meant a lot & he must have been grateful for them, because he at age 18, he wants me to make them for him again. Since we are not having a ‘Traditional Thanksgiving’ Lunch, we have donated one in monetary donations to charity. We do understand that a family does share a meal and hold hand in prayer and share smiles and Praise God for all with a delicious Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce & all things tasty(yummy), we just do it around a different meal & a smaller family. We Praise God for all that he has given us. We Praise God for our love for each other and grateful for our Faith. We are grateful for our extended family, our health, our daily bread & then some.
Thank you & enjoy your Thanksgiving. Enjoy your Family & Friends.

Sister Love!

Sister Love!

I always enjoy making Custom Cards! I feel like I know & feel the love you all have for your friends and family. You all describe them so well & know them so well.

I enjoyed making this card for my Sister-in-Law. I have an older brother, that is very protective and kind and everything a Brother should be, but being a girl, I always wanted a sister. I always feel like I missed out on putting make-up on, fixing up my hair, boy talk, all the ‘Sister Stuff’ growing up.

Having a sister-in-law has been a wonderful experience. She is Such a Loving Daughter, Kind Sister, Wonderful Wife, Most Giving Mother & Fantastic Friend. Of course, My Husband is from a Very Loving Family, so I would expect nothing less. She has always been so supportive and positive towards anything I have ventured. She is everything I have ever imagined a sister would be.

I wish my Sister-in-Law a Very Happy Birthday!

May you all enjoy your family & extended family. I strive that the only Sister-in-Law better than my Sister-in-Law…. Is My Sister-in-Laws’ ~Sister-in-Law!

Lots of Love~
