I love my city of Austin, Texas. I am so grateful to have been born and raised here in this fantastic city. When
I was a kid, my parents did not take me to a little park, we packed up and picnicked in Zilker Park. We went to The Zilker Kite Fest every year. This year the kite fest had to be cancelled due to rain~heartbreaking. We rode The Zilker Zephr, the kiddie train that went throughout the park, and waved to the park goers & runners along the Hike & Bike Trail & they waved back. I have many fond memories there.
Now, as an adult I use that same Ann & Roy Butler Hike & Bike Trail to run myself. It is a
Beautiful trail about 10 miles with gorgeous wildflowers, a statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan, has beautiful scenic views of Austin & is filled with Austinites who love fitness and the great outdoors. I fell in love with it when I was in a student at Austin High School because the trail even passes by. We
have many fantastic views along the way of the trail that the
10 miles just fly by. So it is a fantastic way to get your exercise in!
Let me tell you about Austin, The Live Music Capital of The World. Thats right,
Events that draw many from near and far. You can guarantee
if a band is touring, they will be here in Austin. My husband & I take full advantage of that. We will see bands like crazy! A wide variety of bands, comedy shows, touring broadway shows, symphonies, metal shows and so much more, one thing~ we have to get tickets quickly, they sell out fast here in Austin. With legendary venues like Stubbs, Austin City Limits, Austin Music Hall, Bass Concert Hall & more. Oh, I will be seeing Morrissey again in May ~ so excited!
We are a city of Locavores. We have many popular & local
restaurants, we even shop local when we can~ we have the ever so popular and well known Kendra Scott Flagship
Store(my favorite jewelry designer) that has gotten well known & we wear her well in Austin. We have the flagship Whole Foods~ we are a very proud. Our Book People always has book signings, I was honored to have seen & meet The Honorable Justice Sonia Sotomayor and later this month I will be seeing Chelsea Handler.
We are football proud to have The University of Texas Football team and are
looking forward to having a new coach this year, Charlie Strong.
We also have great baseball, basketball, softball & so many other sports that we are proud of.
We have some scars. I know some of us in Austin are
still proud, but of course, some of are not. Outside of Austin we can imagine that we do not look as trusting, but we are a good people.
Yes, I am well travelled. I love visiting other cities &
countries. I have been traveling
since I was very young. However, I must admit, my favorite part of my vacation is always coming down the escalator of Austin-Bergstrom
International Airport and seeing those painted guitars where I pick up my luggage as I come home. Even better when I hear the live music in the airport when I come home on the weekends. As I walk out of the airport, I say goodbye to Barbara Jordan and enjoy my city. I remember everyday,
We are all here for love. I am so happy I was born in Ausin, Texas. I am so happy I can spread my love here in Austin, Texas everyday.
I know Austin is a fantastic city & I would love for you to visit, but let me tell you we are full. We have become very popular and have become over populated. We have too much traffic and
unfortunately lost a lot of our charm. It seems like everyone is in a rush and we are missing our moto of ‘Keep Austin Weird’. So please visit. I hope you love it as much as I do & oh do I! And all we need is love!
