An Unexpected Thank You Letter

An Unexpected Thank You

An Unexpected Thank You

Hello Sunshine! I know it’s been a while since I have posted, I have had some severe migraines & I am afraid they have really impaired me from doing too much. My apologies for not keeping up with you.

A while back I posted a Blog about attending Hillary Rodham Clinton’s book signing for Hard Choices at Book People in Austin. I mentioned how kind she is and was to me and I will always appreciate her sincerity. Well, during my migraine spells, I received this letter from Mrs. Clinton and I wanted to share it with you.

I can only express again how much I always recommend visiting a book signing for your favorite author or any public, govornment official that may be visiting your town. I always believe that even if you believe in their politics or not, it is someone that could be a once in a lifetime moment, why not check it out?

Heirloom Tomatoes Are Out!

I also wanted to share with you this fantastic snack that we enjoyed while watching The Little League World Series. Heirloom Tomatoes are out now and if you can find them at your local farmers market, grab them! If you can’t find them there, then check out your local supermarket. I grabbed these at Whole Foods. They made it so convenient with the fresh made mozzarella next to them! I had to go home and make some fresh Basil Pesto. I finished the dish with my favorite olive oil from, Mandola’s, sprinkled with fresh Comet Tail Black Pepper and fleur de sel. Oh, we indulged, but it was so worth it!

Labor Day is monday and I do hope you have the day off. Thankfully, we are taking extra time off. So, the hubby and I will be spending a good amount of time together simply relaxing. I hope you enjoy and relax during your holiday, because you deserve it!

Lots of love,

Lisa

The Day I Met Hillary Clinton

I'm Ready For Hillary

I’m Ready For Hillary

I have always shopped local in Austin. After all, I am a native, so I have been here before all of the large department stores. Buying my books at Book People is the norm for me, so of course I get the emails of who is coming to have a book reading or book signing. When I got the email that Hillary Clinton was coming for a signing of her memoir, Hard Choices, I immediately purchased my book/ticket. Of course, I was so upset that I was in crutches! I know the lines get long at Book People because I have attended so many events before, but I knew it was would be worth it. A while back I was able to meet The Honorable Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor when she came to read and sign for her book, My Beloved World. I was lifted above cloud 9 and I thought I was never to return to earth after that experience!

Attend Book Signings Whenever Possible

Attend Book Signings Whenever Possible

As Friday was approaching, I just kept looking for something to wear that would cover this big bulky boot because I did not want Mrs. Clinton to see it. Don’t ask me why, I just feel so out of place with crutches and a big felt, velcro & space boot looking mess. The time came for me to meet her and as I was approaching she was so kind. She immediately extended her hand & I introduced myself. She gave a sympathetic, “What happened?” as she looked at me in my crutches. She then told me of a time that she broke her elbow and was advising me to really take my time healing. She was telling me how important it is to do my exercises and not rush getting back without being 100%. She was so kind to both my husband and myself, she just showed so much sincerity to us.

It’s not that I thought she was an evil monster before I met her, it’s just that I always see her as a great leader and a powerful woman. A strong role model and takes no bull! That is not to say that I never thought she was kind, I know a woman can be both strong, smart, a leader, powerful, kind & sincere. However, as I was standing in front of her, I felt as though Hillary Clinton was one of our Aunts! She was my Tia! I just felt like we have known her for years. I forgot who was talking to me. This is not the former first lady? This is not the former Senator? This is not the former Secretary of State? Yet, it is. Here she was, so sincere, giving me her personal story of her broken elbow and giving me sweet advice to take my time healing, so loving and kind. I was so embarrassed by my crutches before and here she was telling me her own story. I love her like my Tia now. Tia Hillary!

Hard Choices

Hard Choices

I love Book People for putting on events as this. I get to meet authors and other wonderful people that I would never get the chance to meet without them. If you have a local book shop in your town, look out for events like readings or signings. You may meet someone that inspires you. I can’t wait to start reading this book, Hard Choices! Looks like it is filled with lots of great information of so much that has happened.

Oh! By the way, I made Hillary Clinton a card. Usually when I meet an author, I make them a card. I like to give them thanks & well, just a little something from me.

I was a kid, my parents did not take me to a little park, we packed up and picnicked in Zilker Park. We went to The Zilker Kite Fest every year. This year the kite fest had to be cancelled due to rain~heartbreaking. We rode The Zilker Zephr, the kiddie train that went throughout the park, and waved to the park goers & runners along the Hike & Bike Trail & they waved back. I have many fond memories there.

I know Austin is a fantastic city & I would love for you to visit, but let me tell you we are full. We have become very popular and have become over populated. We have too much traffic and
